Meet the Team in Devon

  • Tom Davies

    Bsc FRICS

    Tom was born and brought up in Devon, and although with a farming background decided that the world of buildings and property were of significantly more interest than animal husbandry and crops. After a stint with a local estate agent in his gap year, it was off to Reading University to complete his honours degree in Estate Management. His first appointment was in Plymouth working in general practice and management of a couple of large old established estates in Cornwall and South Devon.

    Other areas of practice over the years included the Taunton and Bridgwater areas in Somerset, Torquay, North Devon and mid and east Cornwall. He has been based now at Exeter since 1996 and covers the whole of the south west with both residential and commercial property. He lives with his wife, a keen aviator and cytologist, in a small village close to the Blackdown Hills.

  • Sue Shears

    BSc MRICS

    Sue started working for Bradleys Surveyors in 1997 as an Administrator/ Secretary and soon found that she wanted to progress her career and become a Chartered Surveyor. Whilst working, buying and moving homes three times, getting married and having three children Sue completed both a Diploma in Surveying Practice and a Degree in Estate Management which resulted in a First Class Honours Degree.

    In 2012 (after taking the RICS Assessment of Professional Competency) she became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and now carries out Mortgage Valuations, RICS Homebuyer Reports, Inheritance Tax Valuations and Commercial Valuations. She is now our Managing Director and works from our Southernhay office in Exeter.

    Sue lives in a rural location outside of Crediton and enjoys running, gardening, DIY and reading.

  • John Channon

    MRICS

    John left the Royal Agricultural College in 1983 with a Diploma in Rural Estate Management and qualified as an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors two years later. He has worked in private practice and for the National Trust where he gained a wide of experience including the management of staff, the repair and upkeep of farms, woodlands, houses and buildings and the valuation of these assets for acquisition / disposal and rental purposes.

    John has worked as an RICS Registered Valuer with Bradleys since 2020 and in addition to undertaking Mortgage, Probate and private valuations, he also specialises in the valuations of land, including farmland, woodland, equestrian enterprises and development plots.

    John and his family live in the village of Cadbury in Mid-Devon.

  • Tom Greed

    MRICS

    Tom has been a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors for over 30 years and has been undertaking residential valuations and homebuyer surveys in Devon and Somerset for over two decades. He undertakes valuations for residential mortgage lending, also for Help to Buy, Shared Ownership, Right to Buy and for Tax and Probate purposes.

    Tom lives in a village to the north of Exeter and enjoys countryside activities and music.

  • Jade Thompson

    BSc (Hons) MRICS

    Jade graduated from the College of Estate Management in 2010 with an Honours Degree in Estate Management. She is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer, and has a wealth of survey and valuation experience, mostly in the Plymouth, West Devon, East Cornwall, Dartmoor and Torbay areas. Jade joined Bradleys Surveyors in 2018 and her daily work consists of Mortgage Valuations, RICS Level 2 and 3 Home Surveys, and various private valuations including Right to Buy, Help to Buy, Shared Ownership, Probate and Lease Extension Valuations.

    Jade lives on the outskirts of Plymouth, and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her young family at the beach and on Dartmoor.

  • Phil Sara

    BA(Hons), MA, MLE, MRICS

    Phil has been an RICS Registered Valuer since the inception of the registered scheme in 2011. Having previously been involved mainly in management of private estates throughout Devon for independent and corporate national firms of Chartered Surveyors, his focus changed to a valuation remit when he joined Bradleys Chartered Surveyors in 2016.

    He specialises in the valuation of residential properties, farms, land, woodland, HMOs and leasehold property for a wide variety of clients. Valuation work for loan security (for banks and lenders) provides a strong work staple, but Phil has a great depth of experience in real estate valuation for wider, private audience, purposes including probate and inheritance, financial settlement, right to buy and housing association valuations, tax and accounting, insurance and as expert witness for the courts in dispute situations. Phil is also able to advise on many property related issues as they affect value and the valuation process: these might relate, for example, but not exclusively to, occupancy restrictions; tenancy issues; property construction, location; land; HMOs; property insurance issues etc.

    Phil holds three post-graduate degrees from the Universities of Bristol, Cardiff and Aberdeen. He is an avid follower of county and national cricket, is a lover of French wine, English Literature, Dutch art, Indian food, Cuban cigars and Spanish Holidays. Oh, and world pub culture. Notwithstanding the above, he has lived in rural Mid Devon with his family for nearly 25 years.

  • Steve Funnell

    MRICS

    Steve started working for Bradleys Surveyors in 2018 as a surveyor and valuer based in our Exeter office. His background is Estate Agency and Energy Assessment in both residential and commercial buildings. Steve joined the Bradleys team following successful completion of the SAVA Level 6 Diploma in residential surveying and valuing. Throughout his professional development and training he has gained valuable experience by working alongside and assisting senior colleagues, predominantly covering the North Devon region. His daily work consists of Mortgage Valuations, RICS Homebuyer Reports, and Building Surveys.

    Steve lives in North/West Devon with his wife and two dogs. In his spare time he enjoys walks with his family and dogs in the countryside and likes to finish off with a well deserved pint in the local pub!

  • Lucy Grover

    MRICS

    Lucy started working for Bradleys Surveyors in 2016 as an Administrator in our Exeter office. She came to us with an Honours Degree in Business Management but soon found that she wanted to progress her career and become a Chartered Surveyor. Lucy has since completed her MSc in Real Estate and the RICS Assessment of Professional Competency. Since achieving her Chartered status in May 2021, her daily work consists of Mortgage Valuations, RICS Homebuyer Reports, and various private valuations including Right to Buy, Help to Buy and Probate Valuations.

    Lucy lives on the outskirts of Exeter with her husband, daughter and golden retriever. In her spare time she enjoys long walks and keeping fit.

  • Gail Magill

    Gail is a Secretary at Torquay office and is kept busy with her two Jack Russells and has been working for Bradleys Surveyors for 23 years. She enjoys going to see live bands from the 80s.

  • Bryher Shears

    Bryher is a secretary working in Taunton. She is also in training to become a Chartered Surveyor. Bryher enjoys swimming, the gym and horse riding.

  • Amanda Davies

    Amanda is a Secretary at our Exeter office and is interested in history and historical buildings. Amanda enjoys coastal path walking, sea swimming and is turning into a bit of gym bunny!
